At the end of summer, there's no better place to see concerts with music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque eras than in lovely Utrecht!

The largest festival to focus on these genres, the Utrecht Early Music Festival annually hosts more than 200 concerts at beautiful venues in the historic city-centre.

Utrecht Early Music Festival 2014: Habsburg

Each year, a different theme is chosen to give the festival a degree of uniformity and to let visitors know what to expect.

For 2014, the theme of Habsburg has been chosen. Instead of focusing on a specific time or place, the selections will be drawn from various composers and styles that were popular during the family's rule.

From the Middle Ages to the end of the Baroque period, the Habsburgs were one of the largest aristocratic families in Europe, influencing the histories of countries from the Baltic to the Adriatic and many places inbetween.

Important composers of this era, to name a few, included Heinrich Isaac, Johann Joseph Fux, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Philippus de Monte and Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber.

With the new TivoliVredenburg as the festival's heart and beautiful venues such as the St. Willibrordkerk, St. Catharinakerk, Pieterskerk and Geertekerk, the events are surely a must for any classical music fan!
