Coded Matters #7: Extended Senses at de Brakke GrondOther / Amsterdam
01 June 2014, 3pm - 11pm
The popular Coded Matters series continues with its seventh edition entitled "Extended Senses," where the idea that technology is becoming an extension of humans' five external senses will be discussed and debated at de Brakke Grond!
Coded Senses #7: Extended Senses
Coded Senses #7 proposes that as technology's capacity to interact with the physical world increases, it is slowly becoming an extension of the human body.
Where once a computer was simply a desk-top machine, it has been transformed into a plethora of gadgets that constantly accompany the individual. From smart-phones to Google glass to pacemakers, technology is slowly integrating itself into our conception of being human.
During a day programme at de Brakke Grond, artists, designers and researchers will critically discuss these developments and the implication of humanity's growing reliance on technology.
Along with lectures and debates, there will also be various installations and interactive exhibits to encourage the audience to further consider the pros and cons of technology as an extended sense.
